ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Departing Windhoek we travel north to the Etosha National Park, famous for its abundant wildlife. We reach our camp located on the outside of the National Park in the late afternoon, where we can relax or experience the wellness centre. The next day is devoted purely to safari in the Etosha National Park, which surrounds the parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan. The park is home to four of the ‘Big 5’ – elephant, lion, leopard and rhino. The abundant wildlife is largely focussed around the waterholes, ideal places to sit and watch over 114 different game species, or for an avid birder, in excess of 340 bird species.
Overnight at Mokuti Etosha Lodge – Breakfast.
Day 3 | Thursday
After breakfast we travel towards Namibia’s lush Kavango region with its magnificent woodlands and perennial rivers where you will see many of the traditional huts and homesteads still in popular use today. En route we stop at Hoba Meteorite, the world’s largest known meteorite. We continue to Rundu, known for its hand-made wooden crafts and clay pottery.
Overnight at Kaisosi River Lodge – Breakfast.
Day 4-5 | Friday and Saturday
BWABWATA NATIONAL PARK
Today we follow the route of the Okavango River into the Zambezi Region. Lush, green, riverine – the juxtaposition that makes Namibia the ‘land of contrasts’. The area is typified by perennial rivers and large forests of trees. We arrive at our lodge for the next two nights on the banks of the Okavango River. Optionally we can visit the Popa Falls or enjoy a late afternoon boat cruise on the river. The next day we explore the Mahangu National Park. Mahango has a high number of elephants, as well as fair numbers of antelopes which are scarce or not seen in other parts of Namibia such as roan and sable antelope, sitatunga, tsessebe and the red lechwe. The park is also an excellent destination for bird watching with over 400 species.
Overnight at Shametu River Lodge – Breakfast.
Day 6-7 | Sunday and Monday
We travel via the town of Katima Mulilo towards the border of Botswana where we reach the game rich Chobe floodplains. En route we visit a traditional village to learn more about the Caprivi people’s culture. Having enjoyed an optional sundowner on a river beach setting we return to the lodge for dinner. The next day we enjoy a guided canoeing excursion to experience the rich diversity of bird and wildlife of the Chobe River followed by a short bush walk before a light lunch is served (depending on current water levels of the Chobe River, which if too high a boat cruise will be offered). We return to the lodge either by boat or guided walk, experiencing the open African plains scattered with wildlife. The remainder of the day is at leisure enjoying the open space.
Overnight at Chobe River Camp – Breakfast and lunch.
