Green Tourism
Tourvest Destination Management is committed to protecting our environment, uplifting our people and promoting responsible tourism practices as well as working closely with suppliers and partners who share these ideals. Our vision is to maintain a state of triple bottom line compliance throughout the structures of our business that flows consistently through everything we do.
As such, we are walking the responsible tourism talk and have engaged the services of the Wilderness Foundation’s Green Leaf Environmental Standard to independently audit our businesses. The aim is to subscribe to a best practice responsible tourism model that measures our water, energy, waste, administrative supply chain and operational supply chain, transportation, communications, innovation and socio-economic development consumption and impacts. We have implemented policies that address how we as a business reduce consumption and improve on greening our administrative procurement such as paper, print, recycling, energy, transportation and products – all this under the watchful eye of our ‘Green Team’.
International tourism trends, based on various surveys worldwide, also have indicated that responsible tourism practices have become ever more important to the sophisticated traveller. The knowledge that they will contribute to the local economy, people or infrastructure positively, whilst enjoying their stay in a foreign country, is one of the key elements considered before deciding on a destination – and product choice within that destination. Our partnership with the Wilderness Foundations’ Green Leaf Environmental Standard enables partners and suppliers to make use of its unique online environmental management system, toolkits for the environment, socio economic development and economic upliftment, membership forums, green procurement and links providing solutions to various green elements.
We have set targets to continuously improve on responsible tourism best practices. One of our core values is environmental best practice. Similarly to Dr. Ian Player and Magqubu Ntombela, founders of the Wilderness Foundation 50 years ago who rekindled a responsibility to the environment and instilled an environmental leadership philosophy. We at Tourvest Destination Management encourage all our staff, partners and suppliers to follow in their footsteps and create an environmental legacy for future generations.
